Yes, being financially independent enables you to do what you want to do. You can pick and choose whatever projects take your fancy without having to worry about paying the bills.
Obviously, this doesn't work if you have an ego that demands you be in enormously successful movies, etc and are recognised and feted wherever you go. But, for many people it would be an ideal situation.

If you look at Christina Applegate's figure it's $20 million and you'd think at least half her income comes from MWC, so I can see Bud having $7.5.
