In many pictures, Danielle seems to have African features. Just look at her lips and nose. I wonder is she is mixed with African Ancestry.

I think the producers wanted to play up the hippy nature of her character, so they named her after Topanga Canyon. As for her ancestry, many white Americans, knowingly or unknowingly, have African and ethnic ancestry. So, it is possible.

I wondered that as well.and Topanga sounds like a black/ethnic name so maybe the producers low-keyed thought that as well?
