I imagine it became something quite different than what he signed on for. But he's certainly stepped up to the plate and made the best of it.
I don't imagine he ever thought he'd be singing love songs, but I must say he did a credible job. I even suspect he worked very hard and got some coaching.
He strikes me as the type that doesn't back down even if things aren't as he expected, is a hard worker and willing to do whatever it takes to get the job done. In other words, a real professional.

In my experience of actually working with him he's extremely unprofessional - checking football scores during takes in scenes he's not involved in comes to mind. He's aggressive, arrogant and rude. A take the money and run kind of guy who sulks when he can't get his own way.
