that's interesting. i always found that what actually worked with journalism (and just about everything else) was using that badge to get past gatekeepers in order to network as much as possible. so in the case of journalism, write as much positive press as possible, so you can get better access and meet more influential people.

I really liked Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance i know it sounds boring AF but it might actually be my favorite book ive ever read. ive read it more than once. its really hard to explain what it is about since the guy is kinda all over the place with it, but its an autobiogrpahy as well as him just talking about different aspects of life, talks about almost anything like rational and romantic perspectives on life, religion, spirituality, philosophy, the school systems, trying to find the meaning of quality which he claimed that was what drove him insane. he talks about his scizophrenia too. he is on a motorcycle trip with his son while narrating it. so its not really a story with a point but one that makes you think about a lot stuff
Great description of an amazing book. Are you familiar with Alan Watts?
I'm participating in a reading challenge for the year, where we have to read at least one book from the following categories:
(1)fantasy fiction, (2)science fiction, (3)horror fiction, (4)historical fiction, (5)mystery/thriller/crime fiction, (6)fiction short story collection, (7)poetry, (8)biography nonfiction, (9)memoir nonfiction, (10)narrative nonfiction, (11)self-help nonfiction, (12)philosophy, (13)religious, (14)academic text, and (15)nonfiction essay collection.
For the summer, I currently have on the docket:
Empires of the Summer Moon
Scarcity brain
1776
This One Will Hurt You
On Writing
Blood Meridian
expand
scarcity brain is okay. on writing is a very easy read. 1776 and blood meridian are good if you're a fan. empires of the summer moon would be an interesting choice, but i'm assuming it was somehow inspired by taylor sheridan. i'd be interested to know if "this one will hurt you" is anything special.
what are those about? i could probably read those in a couple weeks when im done with school and let you know
I think you should read that other one. i think ppl who like books seem to all appreciate it. also not pretentious since its no one trying to be smart or whatever but its very emotional and from a female perspective and from a male author. he captured the female voice very well.

not meaning to redirect it to the boarding school experience but there was a book they had us read called A Thousand Splendid Suns and to this day it is still my favorite along with the other i just mentioned. Not many ppl seem to have read it from just talking to ppl who read. they only seem to have heard of it or only know Kite Runner, but a Thousand Splendid Suns to me is way better. it is sad though.
