Pretty Woman
is among the worst pieces of "romantic" garbage of the '90's. The rest: mostly, even worse!
Beaches
is the worst remake of a good French film ever.

To each his own, but I like some of his movies, like The Flamingo Kid and Overboard. Hes not the most innovative director, but hes very good at more old fashioned kind of films. And, yes, hes good at family oriented films. For myself, I love some of his TV work, especially the Odd Couple, the early episodes of Happy Days and some of his Dick Van Dyke episodes. I guess hes just not to your tastes.

LOVE Marshall's stuff. His BEST films are Raising Helen and The Princess Diaries. Raising Helen is a beautiful, very sweet, yet very human stories. The Princess Diaries is just classic Princess Diaries II was not.

I don't hate the guy, and the word "horrible" might be a little strong, but if you look at this guy's work, on TV and in the movies, his batting average isn't high.
Granted, there are exceptions. I like the TV version of 'The Odd Couple,' a lot. A few of his movies are okay. But for the most part, Garry Marshall's brand of humor is bland, unimaginative, and predictable. 'Happy Days' at its best is adequate. At its worst (after Ron Howard left), it's horrendous.
He's shooting for mediocrity, and for the most part, hitting the target.

Gary Marshall is a genious, he is one of my favorite directors, He created Laverne and Shirley, and helped launch his sister's career. He was an executive producer on one of the best TV shows of the 70's Happy days. And he taught Ron Howard (director of How The Grinch Stole Christmas) everything he knows.

I kind of agree. I think Garry is best at light comedy, which is apparent in the shows he created in the 70s. I'm a big fan of most of his television series (Laverne & Shirley especially), but I don't think his ideas work well in movies that are released today. Though his movies are enjoyable, they don't have a lot of substance. While I like a lot of his movies, I think his sister Penny is a much better director - as most of her movies have a lot of deep, human qualities (such as Awakenings).
