She could have spoken about herself without tooting her own horn. Example: "I've been blessed with people who have helped me accomplish what I could never do on my own. I don't deserve this and I'm deeply grateful." Not once during that interview did she humble herself and deviate from bragging on herself. My best friend, who was with me during that tour said, "this woman seems to be on a one way ego trip", then he walked out because he couldn't take anymore. She needs to take some humility lessons from George Strait or Loretta Lynnpeople who have made it big like her, yet still don't think they're better than anyone else.
And to reply to an earlier post, yes it is the fans who create the monster. That's why I stopped supporting her lavish lifestyle after 1987 when she showed her true colors. I was not going to continue to create the monster.

"I've done nearly everything in the business: I wanted to be a singer, done that. I wanted to win awards, done that. I wanted to act in movies, don5b4e that. I wanted to do Broadway, done that. I wanted to have my own TV show, done that. I wanted to have my own clothes line, done that". I'm not kidding, it was there in that video. It was all ME, ME, ME. It was nauseating.
If the video was about her, about whom should she have spoken, Elvis? Just asking.

In fairness, this "attitude" in SOME celebrities is created BY their "fans."
I challenge you, right now

Choose ANY five names of someone in the public eye, who is constantly in the news and getting more and more lucrative deals that nobody had ever heard of about 5-10 years ago.

Go read any message board of your choosing and read what happens if anyone DARES write anything even remotely negative about that person.

Take note. I guarantee you that "celebrity" will have a very, very small, albeit rabid, fan base that hisses, scratches and attacks even the slightest statement they consider to be "defamatory."
They ALL designate themselves as that person's "#1 Fan" and become obsessed with getting that person's attention to their "fan board" to lend some legitimacy to it.
The point being simple. It's the "fans" and "nave" and/or both that CREATE these "large than life" egos we see in some public figures. When people stop trying to emulate vapid, ruthless and selfish people who are only famous for being recognizable the paparazzi, magazine covers, reality show, free bling, and hysteria will HAVE to stop. Until then, we all have to live with the monsters they've created.

I wouldn't call her a has-been or a loser. She has a huge fan base, accrued by her hard work AND her ruthlessness. She is legendary in Nashville for her RUTHLESSNESS. Some people call it drive, others call it ambition, others call it hard work.
On a recent tour of Studio B I took with a friend while in Nashville, the tour guide happened to mention that in the area, was a building which was her headquarters and that they were trying to build a heliport on the roof the building to bring in the Diva (never mind the limos). This was in violation of a city code because the interference from the helicopter would wreak havoc on the hospital's radar equipment.
McEntire tried to sneak in the helicopter and was fined big time. She didn't care about city ordinances or what effect the heliport would have on hospitals with sick people.
That's being ruthless and selfish.
Certainly she has attained a great deal of success but nothing to merit her One Name Star status. Its just another example of her gargantuan ego. WHen my friend and I visited the hall of fame we saw an exhibit that was on displaying honoring Ms. McEntire (I refuse to call her by her first name). In a video in that exhibit she was saying, "I've done nearly everything in the business: I wanted to be a singer, done that. I wanted to win awards, done that. I wanted to act in movies, done that. I wanted to do Broadway, done that. I wanted to have my own TV show, done that. I wanted to have my own clothes line, done that". I'm not kidding, it was there in that video. It was all ME, ME, ME. It was nauseating. Did anyone ever tell this woman it isn't nice to toot one's own horn, no matter how successful one becomes?? I also remember reading about the helicopter incident in the newspaper, but I never expected that there would be tour guides saying that Ms. McEntire got in trouble over it.
Needless to say, I am a fan of McEntire's early output (pre-1987). But, she sold out, became rich and famous, stepped on a lot of people on the way up and got what she wanted. But at what price? She has a huge fan base but only because people are gullible and only want to believe in the act that she puts on. She has no integrity because she compromised her values and ideals to make it big. Her music is NOT countryits bubblegum pop and that appeals to the masses and I'm not one to tell people how to drink their coffee. Its just not for me. But for her to go by one name is just another example of her5b4 status thinking, "I am the QUEEN. I can go by one name!!
I can do what I want and I don't care what people think". The woman is a mass of contradictions (just read her autobiography). She said she wanted to do traditional country in the 80s because that's who she was and she wanted to be different because everyone was going pop at the time. She went traditional, hit it really big and left and started to do what everyone else was doing at the timebubblegum pop country. Its only gotten worse over the years. Yes, she may be a one name act, but she will always be Ms. McEntire to me and I'll never forget the summer she left her fans at fan fair sweating in the hot sun waiting for her to sign autographs and she didn't because she wouldn't go through the rigors. She could have at least had them inform the people that she wouldn't be signing before the lines started forming. The fans were angry and started ripping her pictures and throwing them on the ground. I knowI was there!! (She makes a vague references to this in her book, "I upset a lot of my fans". But she didn't care. She had already made it by then and she didn't need them. But people are still gullible and make a rich woman even richer by supporting her and her ruthless ways. I don't understand it. I stopped supporting her long ago. I apologize for the rant but it galls me when she says "Don't use my last name. I'm a one name act now".
