It has been 3 years since the legendary actor passed on, and I give a great "stifle it!" to pay tribute to our memory of Archie. I loved Archie and want to know, was the show the first comedy to deal with controversial issues of race and politics? it had spun off 2 great shows about outspoken, liberal people:
Bea Arthur was one. I recall seeing Maude and I liked that too(she was a female Archie with her own liberal views).
Sherman Helmsley played a great chatterbox as "George Jefferson",one time Bunker neighbor.

So very true!
Archie would have some choice words regarding the swill being served up daily! And, I for one, would give almost anything to be able to hear Carroll O'Connor give him that voice, yet again.
It's been too long, since there was a current programme on television; that was truly worth the time and energy one must invest. Gone are the days of series that have a point, are interesting and funny. I miss those days and I sincerely miss Mr. Carroll O'Connor's inestimable talent. His masterful touch made Archie real and humourous. With every programme, additional layers were artfully added to his character. He grew and evolved with every show and he was hilarious! What more does one need from a comedy; than a memourable protagonist that causes one to laugh hysterically? And, to be caused to care deeply enough to give thought to the why's of said character? With those criteria met, there remains nothing for which to make a request. That's acting at it's zenith.
Thank you, Carroll O'Connor for your stellar Archie performances. We still feel, they are new all over again, with each viewing. You are a true gem. You are the best!
May you Rest In Peace Gently Forever, my dear friend. You are so very deeply missed by all!
It is, but a short step, from the sublime to the ridiculous!

Carroll O'Connor created one of the greatest characters in televison history with Archie Bunker. Just all around wonderfully acted, as well as wonderfully written. Everything about that show just seemed to make sense. He and the show are sorely missed.
