Fans will not like this comparison, but in The Affair, with her extremely curled upper lip, she reminds me of one of the nurses from Twilight Zone, the famous episode, "Eye of the Beholder."
Ouch time:
I'd say the lip-curling a bad habit as an actor something she does almost as a tick in certain scenes, though physiognomy and who knows, plastic surgery? collagen? may play a part.
Once I started to see the phenomenon, it became harder and harder to watch her scenes, but then again, the whole show (The Affair) in Season 2, ep 3 as of this writing is diving off a cliff.

She's done that with her lip since Primal Fear (1996) so I think it's less a product of plastic surgery and more of a trademark. I think it's unique and interesting.
