I may have posted this in another thread, but my favorite Sandy Dennis performance was when I was in a large downtown Cleveland book store, in the mid-70's. I was up in a balcony when I noticed someone walk in and breezily stride to a room in the back. She was captivating! It was amazing to watch everyone in the store freeze and notice. WHO was this lady??? I remembered reading a clip that she would be in town for a play. It was Sandy. But by time I realized that, she was gone. I'm not sure if many others in the store knew who she was. It was just her persona that lit up the room.
Except for a few movies, this was the only time I'd ever seen her. But I've never forgotten.
And I just watched 'splendor in the grass' tonight. So young, at 24, playing a 17yo classmate. And she played it straight - no ticks or odd traits to be found!
She was so gifted! Sad she died so young.
