Why is it Alexandre only ever direct remakes other peoples' ideas?
High Tension (remake of Intensity (Movie/Book) sometimes scene-for-scene remake in parts)
The Hills Have Eyes
Mirrors
Piranha 3-D
Come up with your own ideas! Ik now Mirrors was more a "re-imagining" of the less than impressive Korean flick, it still was someone else's work.
Does he lack that much confidence to write his own work and direct it?

You know, I don't agree.
Look at the original films.
The Hills Have Eyes original film, I grew up in the era of these films, the 80s was my playground as a kid. Im sorry but THHE was not a classic then, it was a boring movie. Severely so. We thought so then, people think so now. It's only delusional cinephiles who consider it a 'classic'.
Aja may do remakes but for the most part, he's IMPROVED on the originals. You cannot say that THHE remake was inferior to the original. It was superior in every way.
Mirrors, was not a great movie but it was far from bad. It was at least enjoyable right up to the ridiculous ending with the nun.
High Tension only fell apart with the ending revelation, otherwise it was a fantastic movie, gory,5b4 brutal, stunning. So it was a remake, a loose one at that. Again, Aja improved drastically on a lot of the original material.
Pirhanna 3D already has improved just with that 9 minute trailer on the original. The fish don't look like rubber puppets, the turkey gobble gobble sound is gone from the fish, the fake look to the gore is gone Aja has completely, ABSOLUTELY improved on Pirhanna 100000%. And then some.
So yeah, he does remakes, who gives a toss. You're GOING TO GET remakes wether you like it or not.
Question is
Do you want AJA giving you these horror remakes on a kickass, gory scale?
Or do you want Platinum Dunes giving you them
Make your choice.

He's just cashing a cheque. He doesn't care about creating great films or being remembered as someone who changed the way we look at movies. Like Michael Bay, McG, etc, it's just a 9-to-5 with this guy.

Writing isn't easy, it's not like he takes the original script from something and just writes it on a fresh piece of paper.
I don't really care that he does remakes, I like his vision, and I've enjoyed most of his films. Sometimes you have to make money and make a name for yourself overseas (that was why he did The Hills Have Eyes), the rest, meh. Also. It's Piranha, he's not remaking anything, it's a movie about killer fish, I won't fault the guy when people said he's remaking something
