After witnessing her nine-year-old son Jack struggle during a soccer match, Marisa Hagen is struck with the devastating news that Jack suffers from leukemia. Amid this news, Marisa discovers that her husband David has been having affairs with other women for most of their marriage. Desperate to find a bone marrow donor for Jack, Marisa seeks out her husbands past mistresses in search of an illegitimate child of his who may be a match for Jack. Along the way, Marisa befriends Connor, the exuberant Irish father of Jacks hospital roommate Finn. The two distraught parents find comfort in each others arms throughout their mutual quest for a cure for their children.
