The "Saw" movies have ruined him as an actor. I have seen them all and he has "become" Jigsawso much so that in everything I've seen him in since (currently watching "Boogeyman 2", which has prompted this post), he is STILL John Kramer/Jigsaw. He may be a good actor, but he seems the SAME to me in every role nowand in every role I see him as Jigsaw!

I'm pretty sure he's happy to be ruined if that's the case.
He's a great actor but let's face it if it wasn't for Saw no one would recognize him (or he'd just be "that guy"). He probably won't be in a role as iconic as this one again.

Have you ever heard of "Typecasting?"
Do you see him portraying the superhero?
How about the lead in a Romantic Comedy?
He has a scary voice, a dour expression, and a foreboding screen presence. He's not going to play bopsie the clown in your kids favorite saturday morning show.

In around the world in 80 days he shows up near the very end where the main villain goes on a rant telling everyone that no one can stop him then after he says "you?" For the 3rd time then you'll see Tobin in a top hat and a mustache displaying a surprised look in his face. Keep an eye out and try not to blink. By the way he's not credited.

I agree Go back and read it again. I said Harrison Ford and Samuel L. Jackson have been able to do other roles and make them seem fresh. ButI have not seen2000 Tobin Bell be able to do that yet. He still seems like Jigsaw in his other films.

He is very much like his Jigsaw persona in real life too. I met him at Sawmania in 2008, a film convention specifically for Saw and many of the cast and crew of the films were there, along with all the props on display, competitions, Q and A sessions, and much more.
He was a lot like Jigsaw in the way he spoke, moved, ect. Very nice man.

Yes, those ARE their biggest hitsso OF COURSE people will identify them with those. But movies like "Witness", "Blade Runner", "The Fugitive", "A Clear and Present Danger" for Ford or "Black Snake Moan&q5b4uot;, "Freedomland", "Eve's Bayou", "The Long Kiss Goodnight"even "Snakes on a Plane" for Jackson go beyond the "same characters" they played in Star Wars/Pulp Fiction. Perhaps it's their acting ability? Maybe it's luck in chosing roles or a good agent? I don't know. But they've been able to take on other roles and make them theirs so you don't watch "Witness," sayand wonder why Han Solo is on a farm. Perhaps if Torbin Bell could get himself cast in something different than the John/Jigsaw role (or something similar to it) I'd change my opinion (and it IS just my opinion). But everything I've seen him in away from the "Saw" films has me wondering what Jigsaw is doing there. He seems the SAME in other roles. That's all I'm saying.

Yeah I see your point. Perhaps because Bell is not cast enough in differing roles, he is percieved as being a one-trick pony by Hollywood. b68But, he gives a great performance as Jigsaw every time and he is solely responsible for carrying that series. I believe that, given the right roles, he could make a name for himself as a character actor.

I agree with what you are saying to an extent. Nimoy was stuck as Spock. I think Radclb68iff will "outgrow" the Potter stereotype as he matures (unlike, say, the BRADY BUNCH kids). Jackson and Ford have been able to endure because they bring a freshness to their roles. Han Solo was nothing like Indiana Jones and Jackson seems to be a completely different person in all of his roles. But, it's been my experience watching Torbin Bell (especially when I was watching the dreadful "Boogeyman 2") that he seems to be playing the SAME role again and again and again. Perhaps he's just soooo much identified with the Saw role that he, like Nimoy, can't escape their characters. Watching him as the doctor in "Boogeyman 2" he seemed just like his character in the "Saw" movies (although he wasn't killing anyone).

Well, not meaning to sound rude or anything, but this is nothing new. It's just like how everyone will forever associate Leonard Nimoy with Spock or Daniel Radcliff with Harry Potter, no matter what else the actors may do. When you're in that situation, as an actor, your only hope is to become Harrison Ford or Samuel L. Jackson and play so many great characters from so many great films that you will never be associated with just one character.
