Bill Bixby was a nice guy. Met him a couple of times. I was given an inside tour of 20th Century Fox studios in L.A. as a cousin of mine and her female friend were visiting L.A. This friend had an uncle who worked at the studio, so he gave us a private tour. They were filming Charlies Angels on the lot and we were able to watch a few scenes because the director was a friend of this "uncle" and he turned out to be Bill Bixby, directing the "Dirty Business" episode. We stood quietly in the bac238k of the room watching them film and then were introduced to Bill. It was great meeting him as I admired him so much as an actor. A truly gifted talent who died too young.

It's been awhile since you posted but I wanted to thank you for doing so. I am not a celebrity hawk at all and I try to avoid as much as I can about celebrity gossip (it's impossible in the supermarket these days). I don't confuse characters with the people who play them and I don't pretend to know much of anything about a person's personal life based on their public one. I, for one, am dyed in the wool, AGAINST celebrity worship because I come from an abusive background and know all too well how one's personality behind closed doors can differ SIGNIFICANTLY from their personality when others are watching.
With all that said, I recall being a kid of the 70's (BEST EVER GENERATION FOR TV SHOWS!) and being mesmerized by Mr. Bixby's presence (or aura or something) on both "The Incredible Hulk" and "Courtship of Eddie's Father." I could somehow just feel his kind heart through the screen. I can't recall any other person, off the top of my head, that caused that kind of visceral response. In fact, I was so KNOWN NOT to worship television stars that my parents forbade me to give up tv for Lent. They knew it wouldn't be a "sacrifice" for me even as a kid.
It's been an amazing journey to see how advanced computers have become and that we can now "talk" to just about anybody in the world within seconds in real time. And, to not only share these experiences and reactions with one another but to know that some of our favorite television stars from yesteryear really were loving and amazing people. I will take the Bixbys over the "bad boys" any day. Your post has brought back so many wonderful memories of enjoying seeing him on the screen. I doubt it will happen anytime soon, but I hope we, as a society, can eventually get back to making stars out of morally responsible, socially conscientious and loving people instead of propelling the dregs of society to super stardom and vast rewards for being trashy enough to air their dirty laundry in public.

What a wonderful story! So lucky to meet such a talented and wonderful human being such as Bill. Sadly, he was taken from us way too early. RIP Bill.
