I grew up watching Bill Bixby in various television series. He always seemed to play "nice-guy" characters. Has anybody read anything or scene an interview.was he actually a nice-guy in real life? He seems like he would have been a great person to be around.

He consistently played only
douchebag
characters (including Tim O'Hara in My Favorite Martian, though he was an innocuous douchebag in that) UNTIL he landed Courtship of Eddie's Father. FROM THAT POINT ON he played almost exclusively sympathetic, "nice-guy" characters.

Yeah, seeing this life-long wonderful guy playing an evil role in "Broken Image" was very creepy.
Yeesh!
My Bill is a sweet, wonderful, giving, other-centered, go out of his way to help anyone in trouble, nice guyTim O'Hara, Eddie's father Tom Corbett, Anthony Blake, and Bruceerr, I mean, DavidBanner. Those are the personalities that came through the screen, and that's why everyone loved him.

I've heard he was very personable, always seemed that way to me in interviews.
Yes, his "regular" characters seemed quite nice. His character in "Clambake" was a bit of a jerk, tho; and the guy he played on Andy Griffith was spoiled - altho that being a family-friendly sit-com, he learned the error of his ways.
I enjoyed seeing him play against type in the "Dark Side" ep of TIH, and he played a doppelganger (sp?) in another ep who was a really bad guy. I didn't like that one at all, but those two eps by themselves proved Bix had range!

From what I've read and seen, he really was that238 nice. He got into drug use after the death of his son, who was his only child, but he fought his way back.

He also played a blackmailing para-psychologist on The Ghost and Mrs. Muir back in 1968. Not a nice guy!

True, he did play a lot of those type of roles but in his work in Streets of San Francisco (2 episodes), Rich Man Poor Man (4-5 episodes), Ride Beyond Vengeance and even in a couple of The Incredible Hulk episodes, (Dark Side and Broken Image IIRC) he has played an evil character or an antagonist.

There was an episode of
The Incredible Hulk
where he took a formula that turned him evil. In turn, it turned the Hulk evil too.
