Well, I'm Irish/Italian with some Indian back ground and guess what? I grew up with blond hair and very light skin that was so light everyone always thought I was sick and tired looking all the time and still do to this day. If he says he's 17% it's most likely from his tribal registration, which computes what percentage of Native American blood. He probably mispoke in the interview, figuring one grandmother's percentage was more that 50% but less than 100% but considered her to be full-blooded.

LOl, he obviously can't add! He's a cutie. I thought he was mainly native american. When I saw him on Northern Exposure I was certain he was nativeor at least had more native than caucasian blood.

Billy Drago stated not too long ago in an interview with 'Psychotronic Video' magazine that he had two grandmothers who were full-blooded Chiricahua Apache, and that his mother's family were Transylvanian gypsies. Doing the math, that would make Billy 1/2 Chiricahua Apache, and Darren 1/4 Apache. Not sure where he gets 17%.
