I think Clay Boone was a GREAT character, brought to life by the magnificent Michael Callan. This character was the rascalliest guy you ever want to meet, and he should not be just a mention in Cat Ballou synopses. There were layers that should have been peeled between Clay and Uncle Jed and with Cat. What gave Clay that sparkle in his eye? Who raised him? Why was freedom so important to him? Why did he begin a life of chicken rustling? How did he get caught? And..what about Cat made him risk getting caught in the train berth just to be near her? I think of tremendous, larger -than life characters such as Doc Holliday in Tombstone. Val Kilmer was allowed to explore Doc with everything he had (and he ABSOLUTELY ROCKED IT!!) Cat Ballou creators penned an amazing character in Clay Boone. It would have been so fantastic to let Michael Callan further explore this "selfish and a little stupid, but not cowardly at all" character further. I think one reason fans like this character is because it was brought to life so well by Callan, a great, charismatic actor, and yet, we were only given a glimpse of him. We want more.
