I would love to see this "work" (an email/letter campaign to get her a Kennedy Centers Honor) but honestly doubt this aloof group will remotely even look at such things as the opinion of the public.
Perhaps the leaders of this campaign should try to get some past receipents to join in, they might pay attention to that (the Kennedy Center didn't honor Bette Davis (!!) until Lucille Ball insisted she be given the award). Carol has some friends among past honorees like Jerry Herman, Carol Burnett, Loretta Lynn, etc. - I think they could do a lot to get her considered for this award.

Hello, Kennedy Center! Tomlin, Arnaz and More Campaign to Honor Carol Channing
From: PlayBlog - A Blog by the staff of Playbill.com
During her career, Carol Channing has received two Tony Awards, an Emmy, a Golden Globe, an Oscar nomination and even a place on President Richard Nixons hate list, among many other accolades. Now, several stars are campaigning for Channing to receive the Kennedy Center Honor in 2010.
Tony winner Lilly Tomlin said in a statement, I know I dont have to list all of Carols accolades or the reasons I feel she has earned this high praise from our country-we all love her. I hope you will add your voice to the crescendo and write a letter to the Kennedy Center to nominate Carol. It is time that our country recognizes her brilliance at this most respected event. Thanks in advance for your help and participation!
Stage and screen veteran Lucie Arnaz added her own chorus of approval: The woman is a marvel. She is the real deal and always has been. She is entertainment. And Carol Channing has been tirelessly, magnificently and graciously entertaining people of all ages and presidents of any and all political bents for decades and decades. She is a national treasure I hope you will count this email among your many letters of support to include Ms. Channing before she is not able to enjoy the experience. I know there are many deserving and talented performers each year who deserve to be among your honorees (my mother was, indeed, one of the lucky few to be chosen), but I think it would be a blessing and a no brainer to add an icon like Carol Channing to your announcements this year.
Other celebrities who have voiced their support for the campaign include Chita Rivera, Phyllis Diller, Buzz Aldrin, Kate Linder, Tommy Tune, Loni Anderson, Alison Arngrim, Tippi Hedren and Sen. Dianne Feinstein.
You can show your support for Channing at this Facebook page.
I found this to be very interesting and hope that it works. Channing turned 89 years old in January, so I hope they honor her soon.

It's ridiculous she hasn't been honored but then quite a large number of legendary people in their 70s and 80s have been snubbed. The Kennedy Center in the last decade seems as bad as the American Film Institute in going for younger honorees because they want bigger ratings to keep them on the air no doubt.

Lots of EXTREMELY worthy people never received a Kennedy Center honor. Robert Preston, for example.
