What a bummer.
I loose all respect for anyone who is a stupid participant in that cult - especially celebrities, who have influence over regular people.
There's no way I can ever watch her in anything now

Scientology is uniquely built to brainwash in a way most religions aren't. But on top of that, is the 2000threat of losing your entire family, your friends, everyone. My guess is that your family wasn't happy with you departing from their Baptist beliefs but my guess would be you weren't entirely disowned and shunned. If you're someone that has been interested in your learning about other religions, I'd encourage you to read some good books about Scientology. To understand what it's like to be raised in Scientology and to lose everything, check out the book Beyond Belief by Jenna Miscavige Hill.

Well, we can all overcome how we were raised if we choose to and especially if it is nonsensical. I was raised in a strict fundamentalist Baptist home (my father was a preacher) but chose to lead my own path at the age of 18 after questioning the hypocrisy of most religious teachings I had learned.
As I have explored other religions to some extent over the years I have concluded most organized religions are cult-like in their operations so it is not any one religion (i.e. Christian sects, Islamic sects, or even Scientology) that has the market cornered in that respect. I believe many followers initially seek out their religion based on their lost feeling and it basically becomes a way for them to meditate (which is also how I perceive prayer) when their minds are troubled in order to find a calm and peace in a world that is becoming increasingly harder to understand. Religious zealots are those who have taken that a few steps further, believe their way is the only way and begin to distort the basic teachings of their particular religion for their own purposes.
As far as her as an actress I find her mostly wooden and definitely agree with your assessment of her: "She has no range and this monotone delivery with dead eyes". I think she primarily came to fame due to her physical attractiveness like many young actresses do. She has a lot of acting credits but nothing that really stands out. I have not seen Parenthood or Wicked City which are two recent series she has recurring roles in so maybe she has improved, otherwise I question why she would continue to be receiving roles maybe Scientology and its connections does work for those in the business. Based on this latest role I saw her in on Law & Order SVU (2008) she has not improved much over previous roles I had viewed with her but maybe I have just not seen enough to make a good judgment.

Not to completely defend her but she is a 2nd generation member. I tend to be a little easier on the ones born into it than those that chose it. She's never known anything else; having been indoctrinated since birth. She also hasn't been one of those loud, obnoxious ones like Tom Cruise, Kirstie Alley, and Jenna Elfman.
Beyond that, as an actress, I'm not a fan. She has no range and this monotone delivery with dead eyes (which I attribute to the "church"). She was great in Traffic but that's only because her normal delivery was perfect for that part.

And they didn't go out of their way to insult her intellect, just her choice to be a scientologist.

It's a pet peeve of mine too. When someone goes out of their way to insult someone's intellect but cannot even use any intelligence that they might have to even compose a complete thought.
And also that ridiculous statement after the hyphen, which should not really be there anyway. What a vague and basically unfinished thought with stupid "." because they cannot finish an actual thought.
I hate Scientology. But at least they probably know the difference between lose and loose and how to form complete sentences or thoughts. Even though those thoughts and ideas of theirs are beep crazy.
