They should make a movie about Sam Cooke. They should also show how he was really murdered. That investigation was a disgrace. They closed the case right away like it was no big deal and never re-opened it. Disgraceful. Sam Cooke didn't rape or attack anyone. He was murdered.

Sherlette, I found no proof Sam ever joined the Nation of Islam. And since you succintly state that was the reason he died ("nothing else"), even if he did join the Nation, would that be reason for his immediate execution? If that were the case why wasn't Muhammad Ali taken out long before Sam? Certainly he was a much more visible figure within the Nation. Your premise is flawed at the very core.

Mr. Greene, Sam Cooke joined the Nation of Islam shortly before his murder. THAT is the reason why he was murderednothing else

Believe it or not, I found out during my research that Bertha Franklin lived another 25 years after she shot Sam. She died in Los Angeles in 1989. I cannot speak on the whereabouts of Ms. Boyer at this time.

Does anyone know what happened to Lisa Boyer and Bertha Franklin? I assume Bertha has ascended Boot Hill due to her age at the time of Sam's death and I understand the poor delicate flower Ms Boyer was jailed for murder in the 70's, did she ever get out? I think they should reopen the investiga2000tion into Sam's death, maybe this time they could get within a country mile of finding the truth If Ms Boyer is still alive perhaps she could be made to take a lie detector test as Franklin and Evelyn Carr were in the 60's.
Sam Cooke forever.

Merc,
Cool talking to you, too. If you get a chance, you really should try to make it to one of his Fan Club's tributes one year. It's probably too late to make plans this year, seeing its less than 2 weeks away, but you would meet members of his family as well as hear fans give stirring renditions of Sam's songs. Believe me, there are people who take his music seriously and it comes through in their performances! Gerald Alston of the Manhattans will attend this year, as he has done for tributes in the past. It should be a blast. The details are on my website if you are a fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants kind of person.
Till next time,

I can just see a movie being made about your Uncle Sam. People will be sitting in the theater and then all of a sudden the preview will come on. Everyone will be hearing all of his great songs and you'll hear them saying, "Hey I know that song, or "I remember that one." Your Uncle Sam was a very talented man. He was great. He is one of my favorite singers. I listen to him all the time and when his music comes on the radio I'm glad to hear it because he's hardly ever on.
It would make me mad if something like that ever happened to my uncle. It must be a tough suject for you to talk about. I heard once that if justice isn't done here on earth it will always be done later. So I'm sure that the people that did that to your uncle will get theirs. If they ever do make a movie about Sam Cooke and they don't show his death as a murder and a robbery I will tell everyone not to go see it.
If Ray turned out to be such a great movie I'm sure a movie about Sam Cooke will be just as good. But they have to show what a disgrace the investigation was. They also have to show what pieces of trash the little lying tramp was and that motel manager. The whole world should know the truth. People should not think your uncle was killed in self defense because he was going to rape a woman and harm another. If a movie is made, and I hope it is, the truth should be told.
By the way, it's cool talking to someone related to the great Sam Cooke. Glad to know you.

Tell me, Mercury4, would you go to see a movie about Sam with it ending with the "official" conclusion? Of course not! True fans like yourself would send theaters in an uproar! Then again, no one is willing to talk about the other things that were going on in Sam's life. None of his family members believe Sam died as reported either. There were so many inconsistencies in the Coroner's inquest, it would make your head spin. It's an absolute joke. But has anyone ever taken the time to dissect the "official" report? Actually, yes, someone has. Me.
As his great-nephew, I talk extensively on what hasn't been talked about for the past 40+ years in my book "Our Uncle Sam: The Sam Cooke Story From His Family's Perspective"(www.ourunclesam.com). The last thing Sam would do is voluntarily check into a $3-a-night motel, and when my family first heard this, they knew it didn't go down as reported. If you were driving a 2007 Ferrari (he was in a '65 Ferrari in '64), would you worry about saving money by taking a woman to a flea-bag motel? Hell, I'd be as afraid for my car as my safety (not to mention hygiene)! Sam did EVERYTHING first class. He had the money, so that wasn't an issue. His death didn't happen the "official" way, trust me.
Forgive me, but I tend to get worked up when thinking about how my uncle's life was stolen from him. Another thing no one wants to talk about is how he was the champion of business ownership, yet his family has no control over his businesses or his music catalog. How did that happen? I talk about that, too.
Since I've already written my book, I'll refrain from writing another one here. You're on the right track, Mercury4, but I just wanted you to know why you were.
Keep Movin' On
