Typical of most christians, rejecting another human being because they don't share in their delusions.. Their hypocrisy is truly amazing.
Religion is an insult to human dignity. Without it you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things.
But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Well, they mean since John doesn't share their mental illness of believing in a unseen fantasy, they reject him.
This sort of thing is quite common. The religion business is very decisive. That's really the whole purpose.
