<p dir="auto">Pam Ferris was born in Germany because her father was based there after the war. The family returned to Wales, where her father was a policeman and her mother worked in the family's bakery business. They emigrated to New Zealand when she was 14 and she was educated there. She worked at the Mercury Theatre in New Zealand for a time, but returned to the UK aged 24 and saw Judi Dench in London's West End, eventually deciding to stay and continue her career here.</p>
