Frank Grimes, the notorious single episode character on the Simpsons who mocked Homer, only to have Homer's cartoonism hit him back in the face and resulted in Frank electrocuting himself while Simpson, Burns and others watched, was also a real actor, but his name isn't spelled differently like Ned Flanders to Ed Flanders.
Every once and a while, I get the impression Matt Groening just didnt care for St. Elsewhere.
I guess with Flanders mooning the Simpsons, an alternate ending with a glass orb of snow and Harry S Truman references, the Simpsons could do their address and parody of the name similarities.
