It is such a shame that Ed Flanders wasn't able to endure his depression for a little while longer-with subsequent innovations in medication and treatment, he may have been able to find enough peace to consider life worth living. He was such a vibrant and empathetic man onscreen that I am certain he would have found compelling roles into his golden years, and probably would have distinguished himself. His loss is truly tragic.

As a man who has struggled with alcoholism and depression for years (going well ATM, but it's a daily battle), I was comple16d0tely moved by this. Thank you for posting this touching story about a terrific actor who had it much worse than most of us could have known. R.I.P. Mr. Ed Flanders

I watched The Exorcist III, then The Ninth Configuration, and am watching Salem's Lot which I did not know he was in. Funny how he would be in each of my last three choices. I did not know what had happened to him and am deeply saddened by it. The characters he played did indeed seem like decent and real people.
This was a very sad and unfortunate loss.

i'm watching him in his last role in bye bye love. i also watched him in the 1980's on st. elsewhere. i always thought he had the kindest looking face. i feel the same way about richard farnsworth. they both looked like decent, nice men.
i did not know he committed suicide. he died not too long after filming bye bye love i guess. the picture on the screen really hides the trutha man who was in a lot of pain. i'm very sorry.
