I watched this 1977 film for the first time today and was struck by how well Flanders portrayed Truman! I didn't realize that it was the same actor who played Dr. Donald Westphall in TV's St.Elsewhere. It shows how good and versatile an actor he was.
All generalities have exceptions, including this one.

I totally agree with you. I had only seen him as Dr. Westphall, but I was really blown away by his role as President Truman. It was outstanding!
