Seriously? Do you really think it's the actor's choice whether they smoke or not in a movie?
Reality check: 1) It's in the script whether a character is a smoker or not. This actor may get typecast as a smoker because he's smoked in other movies, as there are some actors that would pass on the part because they won't smoke. Still, that doesn't mean that he's a smoker in real life. 2) Usually the cigarettes that are being smoked in movies don't contain any tobacco. Just like the alcohol they're drinking isn't really alcoholif it were real, it'd be difficult to do take 11 of a scene. Same with tobacco; if you're shooting a scene over and over, you just can't keep dragging on a tobacco cigarette like that or you'll get sick from the nicotine.
