Yes, Cornel Wilde did indeed play the lead role. Jennifer Salt of Brian De Palma's "Sisters" played his daughter and the head gargoyle was portrayed by football player Bernie Casey. The gargoyles were depicted in a semi-sympathetic manner. It's a nice'n'spooky little scare2000show with a few creepy moments. Plus a very young Scott Glenn even has a supporting role as a heroic biker.

I know Grayson Hall best for her recurring role on "Dark Shadows;" her lean face and build were perfect for that show. She was also quite memorable as a drunken hotel manageress in the creepy early 70's made-for-TV horror monster favorite "Gargoyles." b68Moreover, Ms. Hall made a voice only contribution to the wonderfully peculiar 70's drive-in exploitation gem "Pick-up."

It is striking to see photos of her (fan photos from DS days outside the studio) and film because the heavy wool and twead suits she wore on DS disguised how tall and thin she was.

I love that her husband never wanted to end a scene or show with her because she would be so over the top.

Ive watched the entire Dark Shadows series on dvd. At the end of each disk is an interview with either an actor or someone who worked directly on the show. I cant remember who was interviewed but they were talking about working with Grayson and said that shes so eccentric that even putting on a pair of shoes was a great dramatic event. Wish Dark Shadows had written a scene with Dr. Julia Hoffman putting on her shoes.
Grayson Hall, what a dazzling strut.

I agree. I like renting dvds of Dark Shadows and pressing pause during her closeups in order to study her face. I am not sure if she was beautiful or gorgeous, but her face is interesting. I never realized how slender she was until seeing her in this movie. Total campy fun. I bet she was a hoot to work with.
