I've been asking for years. In regard to sex appeal/sassiness, maternity instinct and work ethic/common sense, how would you place each in order. Is it a landslide or do some top 1 list and go lower on another ? Wizzy Jefferson, Mabel Thomas, Florida Evans and take your pic Donna or Esther as Lamont's surrogate. I would add Nel Carter, but that was not really a black show. Claire Huxtable typically sweeps, thus I limited it to these choices.

I loved her on the short lived daytime soap "Generations" as the matriarch Vivian. She later played James Reynolds's mother on "Days of Our Lives" and Debbie Morgan's mother on "Port Charles" after being her grandmother on "Generations" (as well as Mr. Reynolds').

Florida Evans was the most motherly, but Wilona Woods (also of Good Times) was the sassiest.

First of all, may I preface my reply by saying that in all of the black
sitcoms and dramas that have aired in my baby boomer years, Donna (Ms. Lynn Hamilton) was probably the only one that stole my heart. Although I was quite young when she debut on Sanford & Son, I was smitten by her charm beauty and million dollar smile. Her character as a professional Nurse was even more attractive. And for the life of me, I could not understand why Lamont was at odds with her, but I guess that was just part of the script process. Nevertheless, as far as the list you have on your postings they all have certain qualities that place them in the arena of great black actresses, however, I have to make an exception of Mrs. Huxtable over Donna. Although they were both professionals, I'm a little old fashion when it comes to relationships, and the Lawyer pushed her weight around too much, but Donna exhibited class and let the man be the man. All that being said, it was good to see her picture and she obviously shows no signs of chronological wear. Ands thats no exaggeration. She, in my bias opinion was tops and still tops. But thats just an opinion of a fan who always loved her. Does she have her own web site?
