Cut the crap, I know this will sound sexist but I don't careshe was a woman who probably wasn't very political. To her Hitler was just a man of high status since he was the leader of a major western nation. Women in general adore men of high status, if she was friendly toward Hitler it was for this reason and this reason only. To politicize this and try to turn her into some huge Nazi is disgusting propaganda.

Sonja was a show biz child that went into adulthood. Like many of them, they learn so much of their craft that they do not learn so much about the outside world like most people. I have read Queen of Ice, while he makes some interesting points, but much of it (like some critics pointed out) were grossly exaggerated and he was writing off anger that Sonja didn't leave him or his family any of her estate. A few said, that "that was never the Sonja I knew."
I think Sonja was great for her time but made into a bigger deal than what really was. She had a great run on the motion picture circut but it went as quickly as it came and is meh compared to the other movies of the time. She had to have had an iron fist, anyone does in show biz (more so back then) but especially a girl. She was not going to be some backroom casting couch.

The name of the book is Queen of ice, Queen of shadows. I bought a hardcover edition for about 3 dollars at amozon.com. The book was written by her brother and gives a lot of insight into what is described as a split persoality he saw in his sister Sonjia. The book was very interesting and well worth reading..

Well there is no court and she's dead so I will call your bluff and raise you one by saying that without any evidenciary (GOOGLED) information against her, she is innocent until proven guilty. So.. under PUBLIC COURT of opinion, you are causing yourself a laughing stock.

I would like to have seen you go through that period without fear and trepidation that your home would be next on the chopping blockl along with all your family members. Were there Saints and Weaker men and women? Sure. I wonder who we would count ourselves among? Edith Stein or Sonja Henie?

Hitler was a monster LONG before 1939, and this was fairly apparent to most moral human beings on the planet at the time. The beginning of Henie's Nazi controversy began in 1936 when she greeted Hitler at a skating exhibition with a Nazi salute. And because she had an autographed portrait of Hitler prominently displayed in her family's home in Norway, it was spared confiscation and looting by the Nazi invaders; in addition, Henie conspicuously avoided publicly supporting the Norwegian resistance against the Nazi occupiers. That's why, for obvious reasons, a lot of Norwegians and Norwegian-Americans still consider her to be a Quisling.
Again, let me emphasize that I genuinely enjoy her movies and watch them without letting any of these unpleasant truths about her political affiliations affect my appreciation of her considerable talents.

There were no unpleasantries. What you read of her is pure tabloid gossip. She, like many in her time, was a very young and vulnerable woman. I have an autograph of hers on her skates in Berlin dated 1931. Who knew back then that Hitler would become in 1939 such a monster? Well, before then she moved to the states and lived among us. Her movie career started well before Hitler's Germany. As for her brother, well. family can have their jealous and insolent streaks and behaviours.
Her accomplishments were greater and more genuine than any in her circles. So, when she died on a plane trip back to her native Norway she so loved, she chose not to stop in France for the blood transfusion she needed greatlybecause her heart was in Norway.
She loved her homeland and though she had wanted to be loved back by several men, she never really matured to the reality that it was not meant to be. She was a skater of 3 gold Olympic Medals and 14 great American Movies. I would like anyone to say they can top that in hollywood or other, today.
