Found these two interviews that JEH gave before his untimely death. The first is about his rise to stardom and

. The second deals with his mindset just before the accident. It's an insightful article but the part that caught my eye was about his break up with his girlfriend of four years Debbie Davis.
"She kept saying, "A day at the beach won't kill your career,' but I wouldn't listen, and eventually she left. I know what they say about 'He who travels fastest travels alone,' but it isn't fun being that way. I know I'm incredibly selfish. Maybe I could have taken her with me some of the time. Maybe I could have just stayed at home."
Remember he's dating E.G. at this time but it sounds like he still missed Debbie. Maybe she was the one that got away. And perhaps had they'd stayed together he might have lived a lot longer than he did.
