I'm embarrassed to admit that I just today came to the realization that these two characters, whom I loved, are the same man! My only excuse is that I'm a Yank, I guess. Both of these series were viewed far out of context, via DVDs. Since I WAS aware that "Del-boy" had previously been in "Open All Hours," at least that wasn't a shocker. David Jason is a marvelous actor, and is outstanding in these two, totally different, characterizations.
FWIW, as a hearing impaired person, as well as a fan of British comedies, especially, I wish someone over there would wake up to the fact that there are folks who need subtitles/closed captioning! So few British films and TV have them.

UK releases of comedies generally DO have subtitles (especially BBC ones), so if anything it's the American distributor's that aren't including them.
Also, Frost (certainly as originally written by R.D Wingfield) and Del Boy are actually quite similar characters.
