That isn't always true because I know someone who was born with XY chromosomes but she is a female. She was born intersex. Her condition is called A.I.S. (androgen insensitivity syndrome). She did have to start taking female hormones when she was 14.
Actually she wasn't even aware she was intersex until her parents told her when she was 22. They were of an older generation: southern and Catholic. You didn't discuss things like that. Even when she had a "hysterectomy" at 14 (that's what they told her that she had her ovaries removed, but in reality it was her testes that were removed).
She's 55 years old now, but she has NEVER gone around saying she is a third sex or a half and half Intersex, much less saying she's a male because she's XY. She has always said point blank she is a Female.

It’s the stereotypes associated with our gender that make some people think they don’t belong as that gender. I’m not like most women in certain ways, but that doesn’t mean I’m not meant to be a woman. Everyone is different including people of the same gender.
