well, i have read numerous reviews and write-ups about him - there is an ever increasing thirst for what is termed as realism or naturalism in actors and he is often mentioned as being a character actor - this is a backhanded compliment as compared to him I think these days there are some incredibly boring actors around and as an example i listened to a jude law voiceover recently and i almost died with laughter or was it despair ? Actually i felt sick..
Why has Freddie Jones not been given the recognition he deserves well it doesnt really matter in my opinion because the media is controlled by a bunch of uneducated uncultured lot.. and so such an organic charismatic actor with such a rich history and interesting background.. probably without a silver spoon in his mouth - probably does not give a hoot in any case.. just pour me another brown ale to hell with them and he is so right..
He is like a more eccentric introverted (Richard Harris) but with a kind softness and eloquence. Fascinating to watch and ousing with talent and has boundless energy sadly lacking in so many today i mean - its all working the voice, the body and the brain.. a rare commodity.
He has an unequalled talent for what he does - and in addition this guy still has one of the most beautiful voices ever to be unleashed - and he is still at it ! I think he will go on to 120.. its a joy to see him popping up from time to time long may it continue !
I hope a few more like him.. will indeed walk through the doors of my casting suite - cmon you bastards
London casting director - Nameless - shameless but on a mission

I agree with all that's been said. There is a terrifying tendency towards bland homogenity in the arts - especially acting and rock music - and characters like Freddie are a reminder of a better world and time. Even doctor Who no longer employs eccentric larger-than-life actors but bland mannequins these days. Some of us like a large helping of ham with our actors.

He did a couple of Hammer films Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed as the sympathetic creation of Peter Cushing and the twitchy servant of Dracula In The Satanic Rites Of Dracula. He was brilliant in both. A truly underrated actor.

I love Freddie Jones. His performance as Bytes in The Elephant Man is probably one of the most complex, guilt-ridden and devious performances by any actor ever. Absolutely stunning. And wherever he shows up he steals the show with his twitchy, intense acting. For instance, he's the only highlight in Firefox:-)
