Well, it was worth the wait for Anomalisa. Masterpiece.

Same here. It's funny, I've recently thought about "Synecdoche" and why it failed. I was impressed by it, but at the same time knew not too many people would feel the same way. Charlie Kaufman, I think, said he has a fondness for P.K. Dick, which often shows in the way Kaufmann's plots are based on incredibly good ideas. Identity is probably a topic both writers were/are very interested in.
So, while thinking about Synecdoche I hear a radio interview from Cannes (I think), where Anomalisa was cherished by movie journalists. It did great, Kaufman did it again, and I'm glad about it. I think it is perfectly normal to make great movies every 5-10 years. Writing a screenplay for "Avengers" (with all the lore around it + a standardized screenplay) is a very different job from creating a unique story.
I think actors want to make movies with great scripts. They are happy to play a role that matters to them, too. I always saw Kaufman as an actor's writer. That's probably the reason he is still making movies. I believe studios are all led by a committee these days. So there is no easy blame when a project goes wrong. This commercial only view led to studios doing the least they can for maxi111cmum effect. A writer like Kaufman gets a few thousand excited. A hack like Michael Bay is cheered on by millions.

It looks like he's been working on a stopped-motion feature,
Anomalisa (2015)
. It also looks like
Dan Harmon
and
Dino Stamatopoulos
's production company
Starburns Industries
is involved in the production according to their site (
http://www.starburnsindustries.com/about/
).
I'm suddenly pretty excited about this.

A few years ago I read that he bought the rights to the novel
The Futurist
by James P. Othmer. I think I read this sometime not too long after Synecdoche NY was released. I haven
t heard anything about it since. But at the time it wasn
t too surprising or hard to believe, because often when a new director writes and directs their first film they
ll adapt a novel for their second film. I
m sure Charlie Kaufman has all sorts of ideas and scripts by himself or someone else and books he
d like to adapt. The problem is getting money to make them. It
s very surprising and incredibly disappointing that a big name writer like Charlie Kaufman can`t get enough funding to make a film. I find this very surprising.
I wish Philip K. Dick had written
Lord of Light
