It shouldn't come as a surprise that these award shows have become a complete joke.

What the hell about any of Xtine's albums deserve a Grammy? I bought stripped at goodwill and didn't like half the songs on it. Very bland

Stripped deserved better! A true album. These other pop girls have been trying to recreate it ever since.

Wow Katie thanks for posting that I was 7 years old in 1989 I wasn't into award shows that much, I didn't start watching award shows until close to the mid 90s. I will admit back then in the 70s, 80,s and 90s there was so many great artists I mean if I was in charge of these awards shows I would make everyone the winner.
Kate I see what your saying about the categories "don't worry be happy"2000 is a great song and then MJ "man in the mirror" is a great song too I would think MJ would have won that one.

Grammys have always been a joke.
THIS!!!
I can't stand it when people complain about how much the Grammys "suck now". They've always been a huge joke. Back in the late 80's, Bobby McFerrin's "Don't Worry Be Happy" won record of the year over Michael Jackson's "Man in the Mirror", DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince's "He's the DJ, I'm the Rapper" won Best Hip Hop Album over Public Enemy's "It Takes A Nation of Millions", Starland Vocal Band won Best New Artist in 1977, A Taste of Honey (a disco duo in the late 70's who had one big disco hit, "Boogie Oogie Oogie") won Best New Artist over Elvis Costello, and in 1989,
Milli Vanilli
won Best New Artist over The Indigo Girls (but then they had to have their Grammy taken away when it turned out they were frauds). The list is endless.

Grammys have always been a joke. Sure there have been great artist that have won here and there but they have hardly ever actually rewarded the best. Some of the most legendary acts have never won a Grammy. Some bands that won major in the 60s and 70s wouldn't have stood a chance except for the simple fact that the Grammys couldn't ignore them. Nowadays all they care about is ratings.
