If MJA was singing soft spoken ballads like Adele rather than oversinging like Christina does, she could pull it off. I don't think the lack of alter ego hurt her considering her most sucessful era was her first one, she had no alter ego and the era spawned 3 1# hits.
She is being blacklisted, but it's more to do with her single choices, girl could have slayed with Let There Be Love, the Bionic era was tanked due to blacklash and bad singles(You Lost Me is great, but it's not single material, not commercial enough).
