Hasn't hollywood ever heard of a second chance? I know Lazenby was a little arrogant at the time but i think for the most part that was a defense mechanism because h5b4e was stepping into a big part. Compared to what Lazenby did to what stars do these days, he was innocent. Think of all the crap Lindsay Lohan and Russel Crowe have pulled, you think hollywood ever thought once about blacklisting them? I don't think so.

(I think the same herd mentaility is at work with Daniel Craig, btw, but in the opposite way, with everyone gushing about how great he is.)
Interestingly, when you wrote that, Craig had only just done his first Bo111cnd film (Casino Royale). Years laterafter Quantum, Skyfall and Spectre, he's still an incredibly divisive figure and for much the same reasons as before, though understandably the split in opinion on him is more 50-50 now he's lost his novelty value.
I think he's great, but Spectre (which I loved) needs to be his last.
Back on topic
I don't bye the 'Lazenby was blacklisted' thing. There are some interviews where he blames the producers for his reputation and others where he blames himself. The simple facts are:

He wasn't an unpopular Bond. OHMSS didn't make Connery-sized Box Office but it was still a pretty big hit. HOWEVER

The market for non-American leading men in Hollywood roles was pretty small in the 1970s. Take out Roger Moore's Bond run and the careers of Michael Caine and the post-Bond Connery. It doesn't look great does it?
The Job Interview Poem

He did get the chance to make another Bond film - another 7, in fact, being offered a contract to make 7 more Bond films and 5 other films for United Artists. That would have taken him up to and including Octopussy, at which point he would have still been younger than Roger Moore was when he made Live and Let Die. Lazenby chose not to take the offer on the advice of his management, on the basis that in the new decade of films such as Easy Rider, Bond represented an anacronysm that was doomed without Connery and that, anyway, simply having played Bond once meant he would be able to command major leadi16d0ng roles. Clunk.
It's just a myth that he was sacked for being a 'bad Bond', but I do agree the blacklisting was wholly unwarranted and very small-minded. Lazenby was left twisting in the wind by director Peter Hunt on OHMSS, as a device to make him feel 'isolated' just as Bond is isolated on that Swiss mountain. If Lazenby had had the benefit of a director prepared to take him under his wing (as Terence Young did with Sean Connery before and while filming Dr No) I believe the history of Bond would now be very different. Diamonds Are Forever would probably have been a much tougher revenge movie instead of the precursor it became to the 70s 'Carry on Spying' Bond films. (I'm ambivalent about that, since DAF is actually my favourite Bond film - not saying it's objectively the best, just my favourite.)
I think Lazenby was a great Bond and that he and Connery stand head and shoulders above all the others to have played the role. I think there's a herd mentaility at work with Lazenby. Received wisdom states that he was a bad Bond, so people automatically repeat the mantra, often without ever even having seen OHMSS or giving the film a proper chance. (I think the same herd mentaility is at work with Daniel Craig, btw, but in the opposite way, with everyone gushing about how great he is.)

Nothing Lazenby did warrented a blacklisting, his biggest crime amoung most Bond fans and the rest of public was that he wasn't Sean Connery, but so what?
