I have a sister who suffer's from bipolar disorder and is about the same age as Sue Lyon. I would guess from my experiences and observations that this mental illness probably had a negative affect on Sue Lyon's career and marriages (expecially the 1960's when the disease was not well treated or understood).
Many famous people have managed to succeed with bipolar (which turns you into a part-time genius) but it's probably the exception rather than the rule.
Of course I could be totally off base, not knowing Sue Lyon personally, but I think it's a good guess.

Oh come on. The acting wasn't all that great.
Yes she was hot but I wouldn't say 1) that the role was terribly challenging nor that 2) her acting was spectacular although it was competent
the movie and plot twists were innovative for the time though.

She's a living legend. It's too bad she doesn't do interviews. I'd give my little finger just to meet her. I'm 40 and I saw Lolita about 15 years ago. I don't see how any man/boy could see that movie without totally falling in love with her. Good luck to you, Sue Lyon, where ever you are!
