Yes, but see, that's what photography does: it makes a fraction of a moment last forever. For all we know, Sophia may not have been "staring" at them at all - I doubt she was - but a fleeting gaze captured by the camera makes it LOOK as if she was.

Right as usual. Sophia had a fairly massive chest from day one. And there are early semi-nudes to prove it. Jayne's bust was nowhere near as big as Sophia's (or Elizabeth Taylor, for that matter.) But she had a huge ribcage and the apparent ability to hold her breathforever. This was a truly shocking night in Hollywood. Marilyn wore tight, low-cut gowns. Jayne's breasts were simply out, on the table.
Had implants been available MM would have certainly had it done. Yes, especially at the end, when she was so thin. Marilyn's bosom was lovely, but not over abundant when she was at her slimmestwhich is why I believe Monroe really didn't mind being plump, until the criticism became so great. (By the time she had her gall-bladder operation in July '61, she had dieted herself back down to her 1949 appearance in "The Asphalt Jungle.")

It was a party to welcome Sophia to Hollywood, I believe.
Sophia does mention the incident in her autobiography and there is actually a photo of them together then which is a very nice photo of the two (taken immediately before Jayne let it all hang out). Jayne was very sweet but very competitive.
