If you look carefully, you will see he is in a handful of other Clint Eastwood/Malpaso-Warner Brothers films as well, including both movies with the orangutan

and
Any Which Way You Can
, and another somewhat silly/lighthearted Eastwood film from the same era called
Bronco Billy.
It gave me the impression they must have been friends on some level since CE used him in a number of movies.
