McKinney was in scores of movies in the 1970's, many of them Eastwood movies, don't get why everyone only remembers him for Deliverance.

McKinney was so good in Deliverance that it actually cost him a role in Full Metal Jacket. Stanley Kubrick wanted McKinney to play Sgt. Hartman, but after seeing Deliverance, Kubrick was scared to meet McKinney in real life. This is all according to John Boorman.
Pretty crazy.

McKinney vehemently denies this (which even if true, is understandable). But if it is true, why hasn't Boorman, Beatty or anyone else confirmed it? I'm not sure Reynolds can be trusted to be an accurate source here.
