How does she go from being Academy-award nominated to finding no more work after 1964? Mental illness perhaps.

I don't think being nominated or even winning an Oscar had quite the cache as it does now. I'm not saying it wasn't a big deal, but people didn't droo238l over the Oscars like they do now. Even now, it's not a guarantee that you're going to have a stellar career - look at Cuba Gooding, Jr. He's still working but doing direct-to-DVD stuff. Gig Young spoke about the Oscar curse and then wonand his career pretty much tanked but I think that had more to do with his alcoholism.
I don't know what happened to Miss McNamara. She was delightful in The Moon Is Blue and even Three Coins In a Fountain. She had that sweet, perky quality but she wasn't annoying. I read in one obituary that she was working on a scr5b4eenplay at the time of her death and was close to selling it. So yeah, I don't know if she left the business or it left her and she was trying to make a comeback as a screenwriter.

It could have been several things. She was talented enough to work without question. She may have had poor representation at least a one point.
I would have to think though that something was seriously wrong and whatever it was, hurt her reputation with producers and casting directors?
