Eva is, for all intents and purposes, a mulatta. Cuba's present-day population is a mixture of the descendants of African slaves and those of the Spanish Conquistadors. The Taino Natives were killed off prior to the mass shipments of slaves from Africa. This increases the odds of Eva having Black parentage exponentially.

My niece and nephew have blonde hair blue eyes and look like your standard white Americans, but their father is African-American. Looks are in no way a 100% indication of what someone is.

In every country apart from USA they distinguish blacks and mulattos from each other and in the majority of those countries they base peoples race on how they look like. Eva Mendes may have a distant African ancestor but she's cleary of White/Native American origin, which makes her mestiso if not White that she mostly look like.
