She's credited in Children of the Corn as Mendez. I doubt a movie will have a typo. What was the gain in that?

In many cases the original spelling is with an "S" not a "Z". The Z is an Americanization of the name. If you go to Mexico, or central or south America or Spain, or anywhere besides the US you'll find Mendes, Cortes, Rodrigues, etc.

What's in a name really? Family names often get altered, misspelled, translated/mistranslated, or deliberately changed over time. Plus there were P1908ortuguese who settled in Cuba during colonial times.

I can't imagine why people would think it's a typonotice she is credited in as Eva Mendez in several appearances on her filmography.

Lots of movies mess with the spelling especially if its not a big project it involves lesser known actors

Yes, Mendes is Portuguese, while "Mndez" would be the correct Spanish spelling. Not sure this is a typo, since South American people pronounce "z" as "s", or whether she has Portuguese ancestry

Considering her lack of fame at the time the movie was released, it probably was a typo. While we are accustomed to seeing Spanish surnames end in "ez" it is my understanding (and correct me if I'm wrong) that those with a more "Portuguese" spelling come from parts of Spain near the border with Portugal. Mendes is also a Portuguese name.

Movie credits have typos all the time. A lot of the time it's a mistake, but sometimes it's on purpose/for comedic effect.

Mendes is a common spelling. It's disputed whether she was born in Texas or Florida but she was raised in California. She's not suddenly Cuban, stating she's Cuban can be traced back at least 12 years.

I read an early bio that she was born in. Houston,Texas.
I assumed by the spelling that she is Mexican.
Now, suddenly, she's a Cuban.
Edit: I was just reading an article in "evene".
The French press still has her noted as being born in Houston, Texas.
