<p dir="auto">"Shine" is very good, but I tend to gravitate to the earlier Joni albums. She still writes great lyrics, but she seemed to have more (court and) spark earlier in her career. You are right about the Nina Simone similarity.</p>

<p dir="auto">Yeahhave actually purchased the 'Shine' CD since my original post and it has certainly grown on me. Interesting how much Joni's singing voice sounds like Nina Simone these days. Lyrically, this album is wonderful.<br />
Thanks for the tip on Herbie Hancock, will seek that one out.</p>

<p dir="auto">I love it - very reminiscent of earlier Joni, yet new and fresh.   Also, imho, don't miss Herbie Hancock's tribute album - River: The Joni Letters.  Incredible.<br />
