I just saw Pacific Rim and I'm wondering if the character, Mako Mori was named as an homage to Naoko Mori. Given that Naoko's Torchwood co-star Burn Gorman is in the film, I wouldn't rule out the possibility. Anyway, the said character was played by Japanese actress Rinka Kikuchi who ruined every scene she was in with her horrible English. I didn't get that her character was supposed to have been raised by our own Idris Elba (who was using some sort of Transatlantic accent in the film) since she was a little kid so her English should have sounded fluent. Guillermo DelToro should have hired Naoko instead. Not only she speaks proper English, she's a much better actress, not to mention way more attractive then again, I reckon Hollywood might consider her 'too old' for a 'bimbo heroine' like that. She deserves better films anyway.
