To anyone who was around then, in the mid-'70s there was a PBS-TV series which starred Joe Morton as a high school teacher and Robert Townsend was one of his pupils, an African foreign exchange student. I don't remember the name of that show, but it played for at least a season. The thing is, I can't find it listed in either Joe's or Robert's IMDb pages. Is there anyone out there who knows what I am referring to?

My sister and I watched this show and despite what imdb has listed there were more than 1episode. I was very young so don't remember much other than my older sister being enamoured with Joe Morton's intelligent portrayal and insisting that we watch it. There was nothing else like it on tv. Room 222 didn't count as the teacher on that show did not have the same flair or gift with speaking- the ability to get an idea across - that Joe Morton had here.

Bel,
Sounds like another in the long line of American tv series based on Britain's television successes!

Interesting. You just described a British show from the same time called - wait for it - Mind Your Language. It was about a bunch of foreigners in an evening English as a Second Language class.

You know, when I was trying to find an answer for you, I came across a 70's show, listed on this cite, called Watch Your Mouth but I couldn't confirm it was on PBS, and only a pilot episode was listed, without Townsend in it. But given this imdb thread:
http://www.imdb.com/board/20608012/board/thread/18886111?d=18886111&p=1#18886111
I wonder if there were more episodes shown, which just aren't recorded here on this site. This might be your answer!

CT,
Wish I could help especially since I'm about to post my own 'Please help me with some Joe Morton information' thread but I even used the 'credited with' imdb feature and it doesn't report Morton and Townsend ever acting together. A yahoo search isn't bringing up any tv series they've done together, either
Are you sure you're not misremembering at least one of the two actors involved (like I think I may've misidentified Morton in the question I'm about to ask)?
