i hated him cuz he was the one that called wrong coordinates for the airstrike and killed a lot of his own men
and he was a coward who didn't do anything
but i like him in most of his other work
guess that makes him a good actor huh?

You do mean you hated his character, right? He is acting, playing someone else. If you hated his character it likely he means he achieved something in the role - made you believe in the character and feel strong emotion about it. This is yet more evidence of Mark Moses' highly underrated (imho) abilities.

Well, at least he had the b@lls to tell Sgt. Barnes he should be giving the orders!
Wasn't really that, though. he was trying to get Barnes to
give
him authority without exerting it himself.
Well-written character, perfectly acted by Moses.
You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.

But yes, Wolfe would have made a MUCH better officer outside of combat in a more rear echelon job

You were supposed to hate him in Platoon! That was his part - the rich kid, unqualified, combat weary Lt. that everyone disrespected and hated. His character works brilliantly, exposing the dividing lines, and hiarchy of the platoon. I'll go you one further - Vietnam signifies a 'sea change' in American thought, you can witness the many divisions, and philosophies among the soldiers. Moses is silver-spooned, ivy-league white guy, that did not deserve, nor was qualified to be in his position of aut5b4hority - at least that's how the platoon felt about him.

He misdirected the artillery fire in the jungle fight, not the airstrike on their HQ. More specifically, it was his character who did it.

I haven't seen the movie in quite a while but I believe those were 2 different battle scenes in the movie. The Dale Dye scene was at the end of the movie when they were being overrun, not a lot of room for options. I believe it was earlier on in the movie when the young Lieutenant called in the wrong co-ordinates.

If memory serves me, he didn't call the wrong co-ordinates. The officer played by Dale Dye called in an air strike on their own position because they had been overrun by the enemy.
However, he was a cowardly lieutenant, in over his head, and not at all respected by his men. There was that one scene where he has to tell Tom Berenger's Sgt. Barnes something like, "I should be giving the orders when the men are around." Barnes contemptuously looks at him and says, "Yes, sir." A very weak officer.
