My most favorite would have to be from the movie "Teachers". I watch it
2 or 3 times a year and it makes me laugh just as hard today as it did
back when it was first released.
Richard, you are truly missed.

It's been 10 years since this thread was started, but I neb68ver felt compelled to visit this page on IMDB until today. I bought the DVD package of the TV series Soap a couple of years ago and for some reason never cracked the seal. I finally decided to watch it at least season 1 so far.
I never really got into Empty Nest but I was and still am a big fan of Soap. After watching the first season of Soap I was reminded how great of an ensemble cast this was. Yet Richard Mulligan was the one person who really shined on this series. The part of Burt Campbell, as written was hilarious but with Mulligan's spin on the character, including his facial expressions (which rival those of Sid Caesar) it's got to be one of the best casting decisions of all time. Soap is one of the greatest and most underrated sitcoms of all time and Richard Mulligan is the cream of the crop of Soap stars. Fortunately there is a large body of his work for me to jump in to.

"Teachers"-There are teachers who actually do dress up in historical dress in history classes.
Custer in "Little Big Man".
"Empty Nest"
"Babes in Toyland"-He was really comically slimy in this one. He had a tough actor to follow in this role which was Ray Bolger in the Disney version.
"Heavenly Kid"-His motorcycle riding character was really good.

I liked Mr. Mulligan's portrayals in "Empty Nest" and in "Little Big Man." However, I believe he was an extra in "Wall Street" of 1986. The scene was an assembly of businessmen in the film.

Agreed! In a film with so many great memorable performances, he really stood out in Little Big Man. What a true showcase of talent that picture was! It's still a treat to watch even 37 years after it's release and Richard Mulligan's performance alone makes it worth the while, not because it was a historically accurate portrayal of general Custer, but because he shaped the character and made it all his own. Here's to a wonderful actor who made his mark in the kind of movie that stands the test of time.

He was simply brilliant as General Armstrong Custer in "Little Big Man" (1971).
Mr.Granville Whipple from the Little House On The Priaire episode "A Soldier's Return"

That was the first film I saw him in and I enjoyed his performance. It is sort of funny that he plays General Custer, since he did that in Little Big Man. At the time Teachers came out he seemed to be in several films that I saw at the time. He was in the awful Meatballs 2, Micki and Maude, and the next year's Heavenly Kid.
