Hi Jack.
Ive read quite a lot of interviews you have given concerning superman 2 chris reeve superman 4 and the salkinds.
I wanna give my view and again im a fan and as a fan i should be allowed that.
Youve ran the salkinds down like a ton of bricks and ive said this somewhere else a lot of people seem to think Dick Donner was the brains of superman 1 well im sorry i cant agree with that at all theres 2 sides to every story and it wasnt just 1 person making superman 1 it was a whole group and lots of them are sadley no longer with us anymore. The salkinds were only in it for the money you said well im sorry if thats the case why did they keep giving Donner more and more money to spend on superman 1 and if it wasnt for them there would be no superman movie i certanly think they desirve a lot of credit. Now talk about superman 2 i love that film and i love the lester version aswell to be honest i dont really see much difference theres a bit of comedy nothing over the top like superman 3 which i have to admitt was just awfull. Anyway again you and a lot of other people not mentioning any names but again your blaming the salkinds for not brining Dick Donner back well it has been said even in the papers they asked Donner to come back and at least finish 2 Donner had refused because he didnt want to work with spengler whatever his name was well if you refuse to work with someone your always going to loose your job you cant think your gonna boss people around and choose who your going to work with. Now im sure you said you blamed chris cause he should have walked out when Donner was fired apart from hackman which by the way i read he was actually doing another film at the time not cause he was angry with the producers like a lot of people are saying. But apart from Hackman noone else walked out Its ok to blame chris but what about the rest of you. You all could have walked out and protested but you never did so if your gonna blame one blame the other lot aswell. On to superman 4 which did horribale at the box office well course its gonna do bad when 45 minutes of the film had been cut the budget which was 35 million or so was cut down to 17 million. Im one of a few people that loved the film the story was really good and by the way Chris Reeve didnt write the script he helped with the script but thats about all. I thought the idea was really good and if cannon didnt screw up it could have been the best superman film out of all 4. You also said Chris was a bit of an a hole and he thought he was a star well in my eyes he was a star ive not seen a better superman since him Dean cain really they only cast him to get more of a female fan base the excutive producer even admitted that.Brandon Routh was ok but he tryed to much to be like Chris and it just didnt work. I aint having a go or anything hope you dont take any of that personly but i just wanted to give my view.

Perhaps he just meant NOTHING SIGNIFICANT, I think people are nitpicking now, dissecting every comment and looking for faults.

Mr. O'Halloran
You had mentioned in v1908arious interviews that the late Christopher Reeve had not done anything film wise before he worked on Superman - The Movie. That he had only done theater and a soap opera, in general.
I'm afraid your information is incorrect in that specific area.
It turns out that he did one film prior to Superman - The Movie. That film being 'Gray Lady Down' from Universal(which was also released in 1978). Although his role was small, he could be seen quite a bit in various scenes with Stacey Keach, the late David Carradine, and future Superman co-star Ned Beatty.
The imdb can confirm that aforementioned information.

Sorry what do you mean when you said you are look at something taken from writers.
I still think both films are great sequils.

You are look at something taken from writers who only have hear say to write from. When people who were there and experienced actual happenings. You preferr to dispute them. Something is very wrong with manor of thinking.

Adam,
You don't understand the footage for Brando was in the can already. That is why Donner 27yrs later could show it in his version. The Salkins cut him out of the movie, so they didn't have to pay his contract that was already done.
Best
Jack

Hi jack
Thanks for replying really aprechate it.
I do have a lot of sympothy for Dick lester when he did Superman 2 again as you said i like other fans dont know the whole story. But from what ive read from more than just 1 story Dick lester was offerd to take over superman 2. Now surley when your offerd to carry out the task of trying to make superman 2 even better than superman 1 your not gonna turn it down.Plus i know youve said your not the biggest fan of Lester but none of it was his fault surley. With Hackman going off Brando not coming back etc.
I know a lot of footage was allready from Donner but the footage that Lester short was really good aswell.
Also sorry wanted to reply about Marlon Brando. He was a really really amazing actor noone can dispute that but surley i aint been rude or disrespectful but asking the amount he was asking for about 10 minutes altogther aint that a bit to much.

Hi Adam,
Everyone has there opinion and being a fan you cam only base it on what you read. Unfortunately many people wrote things that were far from true. So that limits people's view of the truth.
I was there in person and part of the daily working of the picture. Being a principle in two of the films and working with people for a few years. Everyone gets to know each other rather well.
I have never really told all the truth of the problems of the films. Because like a family that was our business and no one else.
Your correct there were many people involved in the making of Superman. Truth is no one submerged them selves in the best way to make the films than Donner and Mankavitze ( spelling of Tom's name is probably wrong).
But ask yourself this question who cut's Marlon Brando out of a movie when his performance was so brilliant. They cut him out of two and that was because of money.
Donner would have done three and four which would have given the fan base a great group of films. Set a premise for the franchise to climb even better.
Hackman was not coming back because of commitment to other projects he could handle any of that being who he is. Gene wanted Donner on the set.
I loved doing the films and they are great movies. But they would have been even better yet and it is not fair to cheat the fan base.
