When I see him playing a serious role like a cop or something it just doesn't work for me. I'm always like "isn't that Al Bundy".
Anyone else feel the same?

It's ironic bc originally the producers from MWC didn't think he'd make a good al bundy because he Was more of a serious actor before he was cast and look how that turned out.

"John From Cincinnati" was probably the best work he's done since Married With Children and that was an extremely serious role. You forget that he was Al Bundy within 2 minutes. He was also very good in Spartan. Ed is a great actor, and if the material is good enou1c84gh, he works just fine. The problem I think is if he does "serious" stuff that isn't written to a high quality. If the writing just isn't there, then the audience loses interest and then starts remembering its Al Bundy.
